Coffee on Rue Montorgueil, Paris

Rue Montorgueil: though only a remaining fragment of the renowned Les Halles covered market, this beautiful, buzzing, pedestrianised road is largely occupied by individual market stores – from the poissonnerie to the rotisserie, from fresh fruit and veg to flowers and chocolate; not forgetting the boulangeries full of warm baguettes and the cavistes waiting in their shops to propose the ideal wine to complement your evening menu.

It is so good to be back. Corina and I did a tour of some of our favourite places, and this happy market road was the perfect location for our mid-morning espresso. A good rich flavour with a nice layer of slightly tanned foam on the top; Au Rocher de Cancale served their espresso wonderfully. One thing I do appreciate is when an espresso is served with a small glass of water to cleanse the palate before setting off on one’s adventures for the day. Once again, this lovely café-restaurant got it spot on.

Having lived [once upon a time] just off this road, it will always hold special memories for me – this morning has only reinforced this.
