B is for Bacardi Special Cocktail

Most of you know of Bacardi as a light flavoured white rum that is used in a Cuba Libre, a Daquiri and a Mojito. You may not have come across the colourful and tasty Bacardi Cocktail. This cocktail started it’s life with the same recipe as the Natural Daiquiri but evolved into the Bacardi Cocktail with the use of grenadine in the U.S.. The Bacardi Special is a slight twist on this classic which uses gin. If the right balance is struck then the two spirits balance each other perfectly to create a wonderful drink.

Due to the lightness of this cocktail and the subtle nutty flavours coming through, it is imperative to use Bacardi over other white rums and I like to use Monin grenadine as it is not too sweet and has a great consistency. As Tanqueray Gin is my absolute favourite, I can’t bring myself to use any other!

Recipe:

1.5oz Bacardi White Rum

3/4oz Tanqueray Gin

1/2oz Lime Juice

1/4oz Monin Grenadine

1/8oz Sugar Syrup

1/2oz Chilled Mineral Water

 

Shake all ingredients with lots of ice and double strain into a Martini Glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or a maraschino cherry and enjoy.
